Correct Your Posture

Having correct posture is a vital component to life. Not having it leads to a variety of health problems like: low, mid, and upper back pain, misalignment of the spine, body pain due to misalignment, negative effects on cardiovascular health due to forward pressure caused by slouching (clamping down on the heart and lungs, therefore decreasing blood flow), and these are just SOME of the negative effects that having bad posture gets you! Over time, poor posture can lead even lead to spine deformities!

The risk is too high to continue on with having horrible posture. Sit up right with your shoulders back and make sure that your head and eyes are forward. Pick up your cell phone so that it is eye level to ensure that you are not staring down at the screen. Adjust your work station so that your chair back is sitting straight with little to no backward movement. Make sure that your knees are at a 90˚ angle whether that be from a foot box or having your feet flat on the floor. You might look a little off to others initially, but once you start to look and feel better, people will be asking you what your secret is!

The initial task of remembering your posture can be daunting, so here are a few suggestions for you. 1. Put a reminder in your phone to go off every 30 minutes to remind you about your posture. 2. Buy a posture brace. Keep in mind that you should never wear the brace all day though, wear it for 30-60 mins then take it off for an hour or two, repeat the process. 3. Get an electronic posture helper like the Upright Go. Electronic posture correctors help you to monitor how much you are slouching and actually buzz or vibrate when you begin to slouch.
